Emily is an extraordinary young lady in every respect.  She is truly the whole package -- charm, wit, talent, intelligence and beauty.  And she's a real leader among the cast members.  She always brings energy, focus and skill to her work and that inspires everyone around her.  One of these days, I'll be in the crowd clamoring for her autograph and telling one and all I knew her back before she became famous

** Citizenship and Community Leadership-Political Intern for NC Governor’s Race
May 2008, Emily Hudson was awarded a Political Internship for the 2008 Pat McCrory North Carolina Governor’s Campaign.  Charlotte Mayor McCrory assigned Emily as a member of his “grass roots” team, where she led the Charlotte efforts at numerous phone banks and door to door campaigning. Emily was the only high school student working in the Charlotte Headquarters along side the collegiate political science interns.  The campaigning paid off as Mayor McCrory won the Republican nomination for Governor and will run against Lieutenant Governor Bev Purdue in November.

Impact on our world through Service & Leadership…
Emily is a founding member of an organization called:
“Playing for Others”

Playing for Others is an organization of over 40 theatre-minded teens determined to create change for a local non-profit that directly impacts children.  The organization was started by area theatre professionals as a way to encourage young people to take what they’re passionate about and use it to benefit the greater good.

** Jan 2008, News14 Carolina aired a short story about playing for Others. Click here to view.

The goals of the project are to:
▪  Instill in students the intrinsic value of volunteering
▪  Empower teens to make a difference in their community
▪  Use theatre as a way to affect change and encourage acceptance of others
▪  Make a substantive financial contribution to the chosen non-profit

We’re going to do it by:
▪  Serving on different committees to promote the organization and performances
▪  Asking family, friends and businesses to become partners in our project
▪  Producing a show with proceeds going directly to the non-profit

Our selected non-profit is Playing for Others. The goal of the Down Syndrome Association of Charlotte, Inc (DSAC) and its families is to enable individuals with Down syndrome to reach their full potential and become respected member of their communities.

Other Service Work
Emily single handedly helped send seven kids to school in Ghana, Africa by selling Belly Washer drinks at various sporting events at school.  She used her influence of being on the company “kids” board of directors to have them donate drinks to sell to raise money to send kids to school.  She had a Social Studies teacher who taught in Ghana during the summer, and she was an inspiration to Emily to try to make a difference.

Emily traveled to Biloxi, Miss. over the week of July 4th, 2006 to work with the Hurricane Katrina victims to help build houses, and take care of children as their parents worked.  She worked in 105 degree heat for seven days.

In the Community, she created a theater show for an after school program called “A Better World”, and recruited fellow actors to perform and befriend the kids who were less fortunate.
